Turi Altavilla –Promoter
For over ten years, Turi Altavilla has dedicated his professional career to the mixed martial arts industry. Beginning in 1999, as a recent graduate from UCLA, Altavilla joined the newly formed “King of the Cage” organization where he was heavily involved in the company’s growth and success on all levels including the logistics of the live event, home video distribution, and the event’s achievement of pay per view status. In 2003, Altavilla joined the Tokyo-based / internationally-recognized PRIDE Fighting Championships, becoming the first non-Japanese employee in the company’s history and its youngest executive (VP). He was an integral part of their U.S. expansion, which included supervising the creation and distribution of home video product, co-producing PRIDE’s television series with Fox Sports Net, working with pay-per-view providers, signing talent, and handling a myriad of marketing responsibilities.
The highlight of his PRIDE career came in 2006 and 2007 during which Altavilla spearheaded both Las Vegas PRIDE events (October 1, 2006 and February 24, 2007), each of which resulted in live gates in excess of $2 million dollars. His involvement in the events spanned all levels including the signing of talent and event sponsors, matchmaking, supervising of all marketing materials and promotional efforts, the handling of commission relations with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the organization of event logistics with top level executives at Caesars Palace and the Thomas Mack Center, and working with pay-per-view and closed circuit carriers. In 2007, Altavilla joined ProElite, Inc. as an executive, splitting time between the company’s live events division and general business operations. On the live events side, he was involved in all aspects of 16 of the company’s 17 events, most of which were on the Showtime Network. His tenure was highlighted by the company’s record breaking SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS on CBS (May 31, 2008) which garnered an average audience of 4.85 million viewers, thus becoming the most viewed MMA event ever in North America. During his career, Altavilla has also been heavily involved in the drafting and amendment process of various MMA regulations and maintains relationships with all of the country’s major commissions.
Mr. Altavilla has an MBA degree from Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management and a BA in English from UCLA.
Jay Tan –Matchmaker
Jay Tan has been involved in mixed martial arts since 2005, where he managed film TV opportunities for fighters, including Randy Couture, Bas Rutten, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, and Frank Trigg.
From 2006 to 2007, Mr. Tan worked with two different fight promotions, the World Fighting Alliance (WFA) and the Japanese PRIDE Fighting Championships, respectively. He was an integral part of the organization and execution of live pay-per-view events in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Tokyo, handling an array of responsibilities that included fighter licensing and medical clearances, organizing PR events and photo / video shoots, VIP and talent relations, travel arrangements, and writing publicity materials and website content. In 2007, Mr. Tan joined ProElite, Inc. as their Director of Affiliate Relations, acting as the corporate liaison for the company’s five international brands: King of the Cage (North America), Spirit MC (Korea), Cage Rage (England), Rumble on the Rock (Hawaii) and Icon Sport (Hawaii). He spearheaded the brand integration of physical and intellectual properties under the ProElite umbrella, and worked closely with international sales agent IMG on the global licensing of over 200 hours of ProEliteTV product, including deals in Europe, Asia, South America, and Canada.
Since 2007, Mr. Tan has spread his wings into matchmaking, for Matt Hume’s Genesis FIGHTS (Seattle), one of the oldest amateur MMA promotions in the country, while also helping manage the Legends MMA (Hollywood) amateur team, a roster of over 20 active fighters. More recently, he has worked as a Lead Inspector for various CAMO events in Central and Southern California.
He also revived his writing portfolio, penning articles, event reports, and fighter interviews for KingoftheCage.com, FiveOuncesofPain.com, WrestlingObserver.com, and LegendsMMA.com. His work is published in MMA Hawaii and MMAAuthority magazines. He has covered events at every level, from the UFC and Strikeforce to amateur fight promotions in Nevada, California, and Washington State.
Mr. Tan has an MFA degree in Motion Picture Producing from USC and a BA in Communications from American University.
