UNIVERSITY OF MMA ANNOUNCES ‘DEAN’S LIST’ PERFORMANCE REWARDS FOR ‘SECOND TO NONE’

Los Angeles, CA – In the days following their biggest show to date, University of MMA’s founder / promoter Turi Altavilla and matchmaker Jay Tan have announced their Dean’s List for ‘Second to None,’ recognizing exceptional performances by fighters at U of MMA events.

Fight of the Night: Jens ‘The Sandman’ Grau (Bas Rutten’s Elite MMA) x Gio Zavala (Legends MMA)

Knockout of the Night: Matt Jones (All In MMA)

Submisison of the Night: Dean Bo Moskowitz (House of Champions / Aziz MMA)

Freshman Honors: Colbey Northcutt (Team Hoger)

The Dean’s List is sponsored by OTM Fight Shops and WSS, which have contributed $100 gift certificates to the winners.

“The U of MMA awards represent countless hours of hard work and training for each of these fighters. They had outstanding performances that merit recognition and we’re extremely proud of them,” said Altavilla.

The Dean’s List was created following the U’s ‘Champions of Tomorrow!’ event in May 2012. While three categories, Fight of the Night, Knockout of the Night, and Submission of the Night, are traditional and self-explanatory distinctions, Freshman Honors is a special category exclusive to fighters who are making their University of MMA debut (not necessarily an amateur debut). Freshman Honors is an award bestowed on the fighter with the best overall U of MMA debut that night, including fighting skills, personality, & interview skills.

“We had quite a few matches that could be Fight of the Night candidates, but Jens and Gio gave us a classic that is going to be remembered for a long time. Dean Bo and Colbey are stars in the making, and Matt Jones showed that he’s got some nasty stuff in those hands. I’m thrilled for them,” said Tan.
